What does riggers liability insurance cover for a crane company?

Riggers liability covers damage to the load you are lifting when that load belongs to somebody else. Say you are setting a rooftop unit for a mechanical contractor and a sling fails. That unit is not your property, and it is in your care, custody and control while it is on the hook. Most general liability policies leave that kind of damage out on purpose, so that gap is exactly what riggers liability is built to fill.

How much you need depends on what you lift. A crew that sets trusses and HVAC units has a different picture than a crew setting transformers, generators or big pieces of plant equipment. The limit should line up with the most valuable thing you are likely to pick on a regular basis, not just your average job.

We also look at whether the coverage applies on the job site only or also while the load is being moved, and whether it covers loads you are handling for a customer under a contract. Those details vary from policy to policy, so we read them line by line with you before you bind anything.
